SIMIAN LASC and Taylor Wimpey educate tomorrows workforce on PPE in construction
29th February 2024
With advancements in technology and materials, coupled with a growing emphasis on safety standards, it’s imperative for the next generation of Scaffolders to be aware of best practices from the outset. Sara Calvo from SIMIAN at LASC and Lisa Beresford from Taylor Wimpey, took a significant step in this direction by delivering an Introduction to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) workshop at Buxton School, aiming to equip students with essential knowledge for their future careers in construction.
This visit follows on from the Introduction to Construction Workshop held at the school in December 2023 which provided students with a comprehensive overview of the construction sector. During the latest workshop, students were introduced to the fundamental principles of PPE and First Aid in construction. From hard hats to high-visibility vests, Sara and Lisa meticulously covered the spectrum of protective wear essential for ensuring the well-being of workers on construction sites. Through engaging presentations, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities, they succeeded in demystifying the importance of PPE and its proper usage.

As the Business Development Manager at SIMIAN and Enterprise Advisor for Local London Careers Hub, Sara Calvo said:
By empowering tomorrows construction workers and specialists with the required PPE knowledge and awareness’s, we hope to pave the way for a safer and more resilient construction sector, where safety is paramount, in the London region
Sara Calvo and Lisa Beresford are continuing their impactful outreach to local London schools by delivering a employability workshop at Buxton next month to 30 young women for International Women’s Day.
