SIMIAN and Taylor Wimpey joined hands on International Women’s Day 2024 to empower and inspire female students in Waltham Forest, equipping them with essential skills for the workplace.

Lisa Beresford, Apprentice Manager for Taylor Wimpey London, and Sara Calvo, South East Business Development Manager at SIMIAN, collaborated to deliver an engaging employability skills talk at Buxton School in Leytonstone on March 8th.

As Taylor Wimpey spearheads the construction of new homes at Coronation Square, and SIMIAN LASC is located in the borough of Waltham, Lisa and Sara actively contribute as Enterprise Advisors through Local London Careers Hub East. They have been actively engaging with students not only at Buxton School but also at Limes Academy Hornbeam School in Walthamstow.

The discussion on International Women’s Day was tailored specifically to assist female students in their transition to the workforce. The interactive session covered various aspects including dispelling stereotypes, crafting a school leaver CV, interview preparation, and even included an interview roleplay.

“We believe in the potential of young women in construction and are delighted to have had the opportunity to engage with students at Buxton School on this special day,” remarked Lisa.

Taylor Wimpey and SIMIAN had previously collaborated with Leyton Orient Trust in November and December 2023 to address over 100 Year 5 children at George Mitchell Primary School and Emmanuel Primary School, highlighting the diverse roles available for women in the construction industry.

Sara expressed her admiration for the enthusiasm displayed by the young people in Waltham Forest.
