Jake Celebrates Completion of Apprenticeship with NASC Apprentice of the Year Nomination

Waltham Forest resident, Jake, has recently concluded his Scaffolder Apprenticeship Part 2a training at our LASC centre in the best possible way, with a nomination for NASC Apprentice of the Year.

27-year-old Jake joined the scaffolding industry after previously working as a courier for notary firm, Savilles, which saw him travel around London by foot or public transport delivering important documents. After a family member helped Jake to secure a job as a scaffolder at Lyndon SGB, the company put him forward for his apprenticeship with SIMIAN, hoping to gain a greater understanding of all things scaffolding.

During his training, Jake learnt a number of techniques; from basing out to levelling and bracing, the theory behind scaffolding (e.g. the different scaffolding load classes) as well as material and load lists.

As with any training course, there were a number of barriers that Jake had to overcome, particularly with regards to keeping calm under pressure and planning ahead. This has allowed Jake to set out a clear plan, significantly build his confidence, work more effectively and not slow himself down because of self-doubt.

When asked about his time with SIMIAN, Jake has said:

“One of the main benefits of my training would definitely be the wealth of knowledge I have learnt from my instructors, especially from Stewart Taylor and Tony Cowell.

I now fully understand how bracing and load classes on scaffolds work and their importance, as well as how to find solutions to challenges that occur on site.

I would highly recommend SIMIAN to all my friends and family, and anyone else thinking about a career in scaffolding LASC’s facilities and canteen are clean and in great condition. Not to mention that each and every member of staff is great, from Fatima our Safeguarding worker to canteen staff.”

On behalf of the entire team at SIMIAN, we would like to say a huge congratulations to Jake, not only on the completion of his training but also on the amazing news of his nomination for NASC Apprentice of the Year.
